Doodlebugs – Happy Fall

Welcome to this week’s Mix-it-Up Monday for Doodlebugs! We’re into full fall mode with Halloween behind us now so let’s celebrate that with a sweet fall-themed card today!

This card actually started with the sentiment which I created for another card but it didn’t end up fitting. I always save those items in case they can be used later on. So with that in mind, I inked up the Lawn Fawn Autumn Breeze stencil using a combo of fall colors on a kraft panel. I cut that panel with a Spellbinders Emerald Cut Labels and Tag die, then inked the edges with brown for depth.

I chose a few images from the Mama Elephant Hey Pumpkin stamp set to stamp and watercolor. I used the coordinating dies to cut them out and arranged everything with my sentiment on the kraft panel. The sentiment has 3 layers of white cardstock behind the blue so it stands up nicely. I added the images with foam squares so they’re on the same level.

Next, I found the green polka dotted cardstock in my stash but you could always stencil or emboss your own to match. That is glued to a card base with liquid glue and the sentiment/scene panel is popped up on that with foam tape.

Watercolor doesn’t say “shiny” or “sparkly” to me so I don’t typically add any finished touches like that to these cards. I like the muted tone and the soft way about them, so I leave them how they are. But if you’re in the mood, add whatever speaks to you!

Spellbinders – Beautifully Imperfect Card

Happy Wednesday everyone! I’m here with a card featuring products from the Spellbinders Beautifully Imperfect collection. There are such an array of products in this collection that are great together but are also going to be amazing on their own over time too.

For this card, I cut an A2 piece of light gray cardstock and inked up the Tattered Stripes stencil set. I love that this stencil set has layers for both sets of stripes so you have the choice to color the whole panel or not. Then I die cut the panel with the torn edge die in the Deckled Edge Script die set. I splattered it with white paint and left it to dry.

Next I cut accent pieces using dies in the Tangled Threads die set and glued them in place with liquid glue. I added one of the chipboard frames over the center of the design with a thread swirl behind it.

Last, I stamped and heat embossed a sentiment from the Sculpted Scripted Floral stamp and die combo before popping it up with foam squares over the frame. I used liquid glue to add the whole panel to a white card base and my card is all finished.

Newton’s Nook – Deck the Halls with Bow-Wows and Foiled Card Fronts

Welcome everyone! I’m back today with more clean and simple inspiration using the new Newton’s Nook toner card fronts from Friday’s release. Saturday I showed a very mixed media-style card and today I’m sharing the other side of things with a bright and clean way to use them too.

I started by foiling the candy cane stripe design with red deco foil. Then I used the largest Frames & Tags die to cut the fun zig-zag panel out. Next, I chose a great image for my card design to stamp and color with copic markers. This one comes from Wreath Pups.

After cutting the image out with the coordinating die, I chose one of the new tags to cut and ink blend with teal before stamping my sentiment on the bottom. After all that was done, I popped the image up with foam tape and threaded ribbon through the hole, tying it up with some jute twine.

Pulling from the teal on the tag, I took a white card base and drug my teal ink pad across it for my favorite way to add textured color. I popped the foiled panel up with foam tape and splattered a little distress oxide spray across it. Foiling is rarely perfect and a little splatter distracts from imperfections.

Last, I added the tag to the card front and finished the design off with some glossy accents to the puppy noses and wreath berries and white gel pen highlights in various places as well.

Have you started holiday cards yet? I’m proud to say my stash is pretty healthy this year. Better than it’s been in a long time with just over a month to go before I even start mailing them out.

Spellbinders – Beautifully Imperfect

Hi friends! I’m so happy to be hopping in here today to share a different project I just created for the Spellbinders Beautifully Imperfect line of products. It’s got a mixed media vibe and has everything from stamps and dies to press plates and chipboard add ons. Today I created a journal that I want to share for inspiration.

This project started with stamping and watercoloring the petals and leaves from the Sculpted Scripted Floral stamp and die set. While those were drying I used the Grungy Background press plates for the background panel and sentiment strip.

Next, I pulled the Tangled Threads dies out and cut one of the stitching holes dies from the front of my journal. I used jute twine from my stash to stitch it up and tied it in a knot to finish it off. Then I went around the edge of the journal front with a blending brush and brown ink to deepen the edges. I splattered the cover with some white paint and let that dry.

Next, I used a distresser to roughen up the edges of my pressed panel and inked the edges with the same brown ink. I trimmed the sentiment into a strip and inked those edges too. Next I stamped the squiggle image from the Sculpted Scripted Floral set on the bottom – repeat stamping without reinking for the shadow look.

Finally my watercolor was dry so I could use the coordinating dies to cut them all out. I added a foam square to the back of the center and started randomly adding petals to that. Once the foam square was full I used liquid glue and reverse tweezers to hold everything together while it dried. Last I added the stem and leaves with liquid glue. Now it’s time to assemble the whole picture.

The press panel is glued to the journal cover with liquid glue. Then the flower has another foam square added to the back of the center and is adhered with that. The stem is glued down with liquid glue. Last, I added the sentiment strip with a foam strip.

I absolutely couldn’t wait to create this journal when I saw the collection, now that is tamed and I’m ready to make some fun and grungy cards to share with you all over the new few weeks.

Doodlebugs – Star Treat Boxes

Happy Mix it up Monday everyone! Today I’m giving life to the awesome new Lawn Fawn star treat box die. It’s perfectly designed – as theirs always are – and going to be so fun to use year round! Let’s get started with some Halloween treats!

I started by cutting the boxes from black cardstock. Then like in the Lawn Fawn intro video, I used adhesive tape to adhere the box as I built it. Be sure to watch the Lawn Fawn intro videos for all of these interactive-type die sets. They’re a life saver!

Next, I ink smooshed some spooky colors on watercolor paper for a mottled effect. Then I stamped my Pretty Pink Posh Halloween Word Scenes images and used the coordinating dies to cut them all out. I love the extra color but the pictures needed to pop so I added a little extra coloring here and there throughout.

Next, I added foam squares to the back of the word scenes and removed the release paper. Before adding them to the box fronts, I looped up a bit of embroidery floss for some added interest behind them. Places where the floss covered too much of the foam square I added some liquid glue for good measure.

To finish these off, I stamped and die cut Pretty Pink Posh Halloween sentiment strips and popped them up with foam strips below the word scenes on each box. Last, I added stardust Stickles on parts of the images for some sparkle and fun.

Newton’s Nook – Toner Card Front Release Too!

Hey friends! I think I mentioned it in one of my reveal posts but Newton’s Nook released more toner card fronts but we didn’t get them in time to play for reveal week. Well, I made a point to play this week so I could share something fun with you to show how awesome they are!

I have been vibing the mixed media feels more than usual lately so that’s the route I took. I hope you like it!

This is the holly and berries toner card front from the new Tis the Season pack foiled with Emerald Watercolor Thermoweb deco foil. I use a Minc machine to foil but a regular laminator works just the same. Don’t be fooled!

After foiling, I ink blended distress oxide inks over the top in a gradient of reds – candied apple, to aged mahogany with a little fired brick in the middle. Then I layered my Reindeer stencil over the top an randomly spread texture paste through it on to the toner card front. Once that dried it gave a cool bleed through from the ink and I love it.

Once that was dry I tore the edge off one side and took my blending tool to distress the edge with brown and black inks. I didn’t add ink to the blending tools, just whatever was still on it gave enough ink. Then I distressed a strip of kraft cardstock and glued it to a white card front before popping the toner card panel up with foam tape.

Last, I die cut the new Happiest Holidays sentiment dies from black and rose gold cardstocks, gluing the layers together and popping them up on the card front with foam squares.

I know mixed media and messy things aren’t for everyone. I have grown to love them over the years and embrace joy when creating them too. I hope you found something in today’s project that you like or want to try.

Newton’s Nook – October Release Instagram Hop

Yay!!! We made it all week long and the Newton’s Nook release is finally available in the shop. I’m here with a quick and easy but beautiful card to round out inspiration for the week and remind you we have an Instagram Hop going on today to celebrate!

This is an all die cut card which would be perfect for mass producing but it’s so pretty with those patterned papers that I think it’s one of my favorites from the release!

I used two papers from the new Christmas Party paper pad and paired them with the Essential Tags dies and Happiest Holidays sentiment dies. Everything is adhered with liquid glue and foam tape. I finished the top off with a brown bow that I added with a foam square.

Remember to head to Instagram and hop with us for another chance to win plus tons of extra inspiration!

Build Your Stash Holiday Cardmakers | Falling for the Holidays Hop

Hello friends! I’m proud to be a sponsor for the Build Your Stash Holiday Cardmakers linky party once again. Today I’m popping in with some Christmas inspiration using some of our awesome Twiddler’s Nook products.

I started by using my pressure pal to help stamp my snowman and sentiment; coloring with copic markers and using the coordinating dies to cut him out. I trimmed the sentiment with a paper cutter.

Next I sprayed a white panel with distress oxide and distress spritz sprays for textured color. After the panel dried I splattered it with water and blotted that. Finally I used my blending brush with the Simon Hurley Sparkling Stars stencil set. The first layer I used mustard seed distress oxide ink and the second layer is phoenix feather Astro Paste.

Once that panel dried, I used the snowflake stamp in the Simon Hurley Christmas Borders stamp set with white pigment ink on the background. Trimming the panel to 4×5.5 inches I popped it up on a white card base and tucked a black strip along the right edge.

I added silver thread behind my snowman before adhering him and my sentiment strip with foam squares. To finish the design I glued a scattering of Snow Day clay embellishments across the panel and added glossy scents to the holly berries and carrot nose.

Newton’s Nook – October Release Day 3

We’re already to the last day of release reveals for the Newton’s Nook October release! The week has flown by and we saved the best for last! Bring on the puppies and kitties!!!

Today we reveal the Christmas Time Cats and Christmas Time Dogs stamp and die sets, along with new toner card fronts. Today I have cards to share using the new stamps but my toner card fronts didn’t get here in time so I’ll have fun inspiration using those coming very soon!

You know I love the new size of the Newton critters and these are no exception! I had a blast creating two cards to share with you today. Let’s visit the puppies first!

For this card I cut the Card Layout 2 die with green and black cardstocks. I heat embossed my sentiment on the larger rectangle and popped it all up on a piece of paper from the Christmas Party paper pad. Then I popped my puppies up with foam squares and finished the design off with some glossy accent noses and stardust Stickles on accents on each image.

The kitty design actually uses the inserts from my card on day 2 which were white! I used Distress Micah Spray to add a fabulous green sparkle to them before popping them up with foam squares on another piece of paper from the Christmas Party paper pad.

I cut a circle using a Circle Frame die, heat embossed my sentiment on the bottom and ink blended a little white pigment ink on the top. Then I splattered a little white paint and popped my kitties up with foam squares. I added that to the card front with foam tape and finished the design off with some glossy accents on parts of each image.

Newton’s Nook – October Release Day 2

Hello again. I’m back with day 2 of release reveals for the Newton’s Nook October release. Today we have a couple of die sets to share and I made a card with each one for inspiration.

These new sets are called Merriest Christmas and Happiest Holidays. They’ll be a great addition to your holiday crafting stash. They have a beautiful script and a perfect shadow die included.

I used a couple of goodies we revealed yesterday to go with these awesome new word dies and created a Christmas and New Years card to share.

First up I used the frame from the Card Layout 5 die with some of the Christma Party paper pad to create a background for the Merriest Christmas sentiment. Then I added a few gifts using the Gift Builder set to frame the words. My sentiment is cut from white glitter foam so I just finished the design with some ribbon around the top instead my usual gloss and sparkle.

For new Happiest Holidays card, I used a stamp from the Christmas Greetings stamp set to repeat across a cream panel creating my background. Then I got messy with Ranger Astro Pastes and the Fireworks stencil to create a booming background for my sentiment. That panel is cut from the banner die in the Basic Frames set.

I tied some twine around the top and popped it up on the stamped background panel. Then I added my sentiment with liquid glue and added the whole panel to a white card base.
