Doodlebugs – Smile, Thinking of You

Hi friends! Today is going to be the last Mix it up Monday for Doodlebugs for now. Cathy has some family things to attend to and the design team is going away. We will continue to cheerlead and support Doodlebugs in all the ways we can but weekly posts won’t happen anymore.

For my last design team card, I’m using a combo of multiple companies, old and new products. Shopping your stash can really be so fun and invigorating when you get to extend the life of something you’ve had for years and put something shiny and new to use too!

I recently got the Lawn Fawn Daisy Bloom Outline stencil and wanted to play with it so that’s how my card started. I inked it up using mini blending brushes and Lawn Fawn dye inks – guava, mermaid and sunflower specifically. I removed the stencil and splattered the panel with pink metallic watercolor which adds so much shimmery fun to the background!

This is the point where I played with the new thing I’d been putting off so what to pair with it. Digging for a sentiment to guide my way, I came across my Pretty Pink Posh die cut sentiments and loved the “smile” idea with happy flowers. To grow on that, I added a favorite banner greeting to take it a step further. But that was all too plain so I went looking for one of my staple cute critters to liven things up.

That is when I found one of my oldest and most favorite Mama Elephant sets called Page Huggers! I haven’t used it in a while so I was excited to find an excuse to. This set has four animals, today I chose the bunny for his height in proportion to the sentiment. I colored and cut him out with the coordinating die, then layered everything together.

Everything is adhered with foam squares for that dimension and interest. Plus, I want to note that there is no harsh black on my card anywhere so I went chose to stamp an image, I used Lawn Fawn Crunchy Leaf ink which is copic friendly but also kept the overall appearance on my card soft.

Doodlebugs – Bright and Bold Summer Hugs

Welcome back everyone! This week’s Mix it up Monday for Doodlebugs is much bolder and brighter than I originally planned but sometimes you just go with the flow and see where you end up.

This card started with my desire to play with the Pretty Pink Posh Summer Fun stencil set again in a more calculated way by inking each item separately with mini blending brushes instead of the global one color per layer idea. It started out easy enough but quickly took a turn on the second layer when my color choices turned much bolder than I originally pictured. But nothing was wrong so I kept going and actually love where we ended up.

Once the ink blending was done I wanted to add some texture so I went with Distress Spritz Spray in tumbled glass lightly across the whole panel. Then while that was drying, I pulled out the Lawn Fawn Giant Sending Big Hugs die and cut it from Spellbinders glitter foam. *Pro Tip: This foam is made from something different because after it goes through the die cut machine you can actually watch it pop back up to full volume. It’s crazy.

I really wanted to tie in the sentiment to something summery so I pulled out the Pretty Pink Posh Banner Greetings stamps and dies, finding the perfect sub-sentiment to add. I adorned that with some embellishments from my stash which I think are SO FUN on this design!

After adding the whole thing to a card base with liquid glue, I wrapped some twine around the top for added brightness and interest.

Doodlebugs – Mini Note Cards Always Win

Happy Mix it up Monday everyone! Today I’m sharing a mini note card mixing my favorite mini card die set from Pretty Pink Posh with a few things from Mama Elephant to decorate the front. These cards are so quick to whip up and sometimes all you need to share a little sentiment with someone special.

These are my favorite “lunch box” type notes to create and leave for my family; usually in a lunch box or on a keyboard or something. Another way to extend the use is to punch a hole in the corner and tie them to a gift bag as a card/tag combo.

To create this card, I cut the card and front layer using the Pretty Pink Posh Mini Note Card die set and glued them together. Then I pulled out a couple of Mama Elephant die sets to create my polaroid frame and kitty. These are the Mini Photo Frames and Teeny Notes dies, then my sentiment came from the Mama Elephant Simple Friends Bubbles stamps and dies set.

For the kitty, I cut him from white cardstock and ink blended with orange and then added detail with copic markers. I colored a little scrap of white paper with nose and eyes and glued it to fill in those spaces – sometimes this is the answer over keeping track of the tiny pieces that pop out.

I happened to create this on the fly for my daughter to let her know I am proud of her and the hard work she’s been putting in but they are great for any message you want to share.

Doodlebugs – Fabulous Halloween

Happy Mix-it-up Monday everyone! I’m here this week with an all out Halloween card featuring this year’s Mama Elephant Halloween goodies which I cannot get enough of! They’re SO CUTE!

I actually stamped and colored all of the images in the Mama Elephant Boo Crew set and die cut them out. Things got full and I saved what I didn’t use for another card – translate to “oh darn I have to create with this set again”.

Once the images were paired down and glued together how I wanted. I switched gears to my background. I had lots of ideas but landed on the largest die in the Mama Elephant Frilly Window Frame set from peach cardstock. I inked up the edges with Lawn Fawn carrot ink and then added the Pretty Pink Posh Sunburst stencil to the center with Lawn Fawn ballet slippers to pop the pink from my images. I splattered the panel with pink watercolor paint and let it dry.

Once that was dry, I stamped my sentiment with Lawn Fawn guava ink (the ballet slippers wasn’t bright enough for me – disappointing). Then I popped the panel up on a white card base with foam tape. Next I added foam squares to my images and popped them up right above the sentiment.

For finishing touches today, I started with just glossy accents on the critter noses and the fox’s hat band. Then I wanted more so out came the stardust Stickles for the “B” and candy shaped “O”. Extra sparkle is never a bad idea.

Doodlebugs – Much Love Flamingo Style

Hey friends! I’m back with another Mix-it-up Monday post for Doodlebugs. It’s been a while and I’m happy to be back. Today I have a fun summer-themed card featuring some new and older Pretty Pink Posh and Concord & 9th goodies today.

This card started because I just had to build that awesome flamingo from Pretty Pink Posh as soon as it hit my mailbox. He hung out on my desk for about a day just being cute and eventually I figured out what I wanted to do with him.

I trimmed down a piece of yellow cardstock and inked up the Pretty Pink Posh seashells stencil using darker yellow ink and a tinge of orange on the edges for depth. Next, I cut the Concord & 9th Circle Sayings die from white and teal cardstocks.

I figured out placement of my sentiment and flamingo, then popped them up with foam tape. Before adding the whole panel to a card base, I wrapped the bottom with jute twine and tied it in a bow. Then I could carefully add foam tape to the back, avoiding the twine which helps it all lay flat.

Once that was all assembled, I added some stardust Stickles to the starfish and flamingo beak for a little sparkle. Last was a dab of glossy accents on the flamingo’s eye to help it pop too. Isn’t this just giving so much summer?!? I love it!

Doodlebugs – Give You a Squeeze Card

Welcome everyone! I’m pining for sunshine and summer vibes lately so I pulled out some older favorites to craft my way into sunshine.

First I pulled out the Pretty Pink Posh Citrus stamp set and stamped a whole bundle of each image in the set. I colored everything with copic markers in combos of oranges of lemons on my mind. Then I used the coordinating dies to cut everything out and started playing around with arrangements. I landed on this line of fruit vibe and used liquid glue to adhere them all together.

With this much direction I knew I wanted a vibrant, fun background so I pulled out this Lawn Fawn Stitched Wavy Backdrop. I spritzed distress oxide sprays on a panel. Let it dry and then spritzed it with water and watered down white paint. When that layer dried, I cut it out with the backdrop die.

Finally, I glued the background to a card base, then popped the strip of citrus up with foam squares. Last, I stamped and heat embossed a sentiment in the Citrus stamp set on black cardstock and die cut it with a Pretty Pink Posh Sentiment Strip die. This is also popped up with foam strips.

For finishing touches I added stardust Stickles to the flower centers and glued a scattering of yellow baubles I had in my stash.

Doodlebugs – Flying By to Say… and a Contest Winner

Happy Mix it up Monday everyone! I’m here with this week’s fun concoction, featuring the giveaway from last week – the Mama Elephant Curly Screen Frame – and at the end of this post the reveal of the winner of this die set!

To create this card, I stamped and colored the images from the Lawn Fawn Have a Mice Flight stamp set, then used the coordinating dies to cut them out. Switching gears to my background, I die cut the Mama Elephant Curly Screen Frame from blue cardstock and the frame from melon cardstock.

I paired my blue panel with the Lawn Fawn Stratus Cloud stencil, spreading white lie Stellar Paste through it for some great textured glossy clouds. Once that panel was dry, I glued the frame over the top and popped up my images in the center.

Next, I stamped and heat embossed my sentiment, cutting it out with a Pretty Pink Posh sentiment strip die. I popped this up with foam strips and then added foam tape to the back of the curly screen panel to adhere it to a light yellow card base.

For finishing touches I added glossy accents to the mouse’s goggles and nose. Isn’t it so sweet?!?

Doodlebugs – You Got This Card and GIVEAWAY

Hi friends! Happy Mix it up Monday! Today I’ve got a card to share plus a little giveaway at the end sponsored by Doodlebugs! Let’s get on with it!

For this card, I pulled out the Concord & 9th Fish Friends stamps and dies. I cut the fish from a bunch of different colors, then mixed and matched creating fun and vibrant fish along the way. Then I cut the base to one of the fish shapes and stamped my sentiment on it for a fun and interesting look instead of a banner.

For my background, I took a piece of white cardstock and spritzed it with different Distress Sprays – stains and spritz for bold color and shimmer. After the sprays dried I splattered a little water for some texture too. Then I cut the panel with the Pretty Pink Posh Pierced Scallops cover plate.

I arranged the fish and seaweed to my liking on the background panel. Then I glued the seaweed down with liquid glue and added all the fish with foam squares. It made a big difference to give them height. Last, I glued the panel to a white card base.

Doodlebugs – Wish Big Floral Birthday

Welcome everyone! Mix it up Monday is taking a birthday turn this week. With florals even! If you’ve been here you know that I gravitate toward all cute critters with a side of whatever strikes me at the moment. Well, the Waffle Flower die and stencil combos are very inviting and I really couldn’t resist the Rose Bouquet set. It’s big and beautiful. A perfect focal point to play with.

So I started my card with that using blending brushes and Lawn Fawn inks – lemonade and no. 2 pencil for the flowers with mermaid and peacock for the leaves. Then I die cut teal cardstock with the Pretty Pink Posh Pierced Scallops cover plate and splattered it with watered down peacock ink, white paint and unicorn watercolor paint.

While that was drying, I used the Pretty Pink Posh Wish Big dies and cut my sentiment out. I added gold glitter foam to an adhesive sheet and cut it out. This made it easy to remove the backing paper and adhere it directly to the florals.

When the scallop panel was dry, I glued it to a white card base and then added foam tape to the back of the florals. The dimension from the florals and the foam sentiment is perfect together.

I finished the design off with a scattering of yellow glitter enamel dots across the whole design. I love how the pops of yellow on the side break up the teal and tie in with the flowers perfectly.

Doodlebugs – One of a Kind

Happy Mix it up Monday everyone! I’m working my way out of all things valentine and into some fun spring ideas; I hope you don’t mind. Today we’re playing with ladybugs and big beautiful sentiments! I love that combo!

The start of this was purely to play with the Pretty Pink Posh Ladybugs layered stencil set. I inked up the body layer with a combo of red and orange inks because you see such a variety of ladybug colors anymore and I thought they should all be here. Then to finish the stenciling off, I spread black widow Stellar Paste through the dots for some shine.

While that panel was drying, I stamped images from Pretty Pink Posh Lovely Ladybugs and colored them with copic markers. I used the coordinating dies to cut them out and then moved on to heat embossing a sentiment from Waffle Flower’s Old Friend Sentiments stamp and die combo. I went ahead and also stamped and die cut the sub sentiment using Lawn Fawn lobster ink.

Digging through my cardstock I found this great melon color and decided it was the perfect base for my card front. After trimming it down, I glued it to a card base and used a corner rounder on opposing corners. Then I trimmed the stenciled panel down to 4×5.25 inches and rounded the same corners. This panel is popped up on the card front with foam tape. Then the sentiments and ladybugs are all added with foam squares as well.
