Doodlebugs – Halloween Word Art

Hi there! Today for Doodlebugs Mix-it-up Monday I’m playing with this new set from Pretty Pink Posh called Halloween Word Scenes. They are really fun spooky words and sayings with images in place of some letters. They’re adorable and a fun way to combine your sentiment and images into one.

I was really stuck on the “trick or treat” sentiment so I stamped and colored that first, then used the coordinating die to cut it out. I immediately went to the notched rectangle dies because it seemed like it would fit and I was right. It’s perfect!

After popping the sentiment up with foam squares on the black square, I switched to deciding what I wanted to do with my background. That’s when I remembered this new Concord & 9th embossing folder called Dashed Lines that I hadn’t played with yet. So I embossed a green panel and went over it with my blending brush to help those lines pop.

After gluing the embossed panel to a card base I thought it was missing something so I added a gray strip about 1″ wide behind the notched square. Then I finished things off with a scattering of Pretty Pink Posh pearls and some stardust Stickles on some of the images, plus glossy accents on the jack-o-lantern’s face.

Doodlebugs – Rustic Christmas Inspiration

Welcome everyone! So glad you stopped by for this week’s Mix-it-up Monday for Doodlebugs! I’m squeezing in a little Christmas in between all my fall and Halloween crafting for the fun of it.

Today I created 2 of the Waffle Flower Poinsettia Frames with the die and stencil combo. I added some glitter brush pen to the yellow centers and die cut white glitter centers for the poinsettias themselves.

Next I used the Concord & 9th Woodgrain embossing folder on dark brown cardstock. I ink blended it with ground espresso distress oxide ink and splattered it with white paint. After gluing that to a card base, I popped the poinsettia frame pieces up with foam squares.

Last, I die cut the Merry Christmas sentiment from Spellbinders. I didn’t love the stark white background so I went over the edges lightly with my brown blending brush; I just didn’t add any more ink to it and used a light hand. Last, I added the sentiment to the center of the card with foam squares and liquid glue.

Doodlebugs – Beach Days

Hi friends! I’m here with my installment of Mix it up Monday for Doodlebugs. I’m still intermittently playing with my summer goodies and having fun before it’s all things holiday! I have two cards to share today and they happened by accident in a really cool way.

I wanted to play with my recently ordered Concord & 9th Beach Days dies so I pulled out some colored cardstock and started cutting umbrella pieces. Once I had a good variety I just started assembling, honestly thinking it would be enough for one card. Nope, easily enough for two.

Once I figured that out, I pulled out watercolor paper and kraft cardstock to start making some sky and sand. I used distress oxide sprays for my sky and a splattering of watered down ink and paint for my sand. Those panels ended up being the perfect size to cut in half and use on both cards too. The umbrellas perfectly span the seam.

Once all of that was assembled, I stamped and heat embossed sentiments from the Waffle Flower Coastal Greetings set and used the coordinating dies to cut them out. But things were still a little empty so I die cut and added a sea gull to each card. Aren’t they funny up there?!? They make me giggle.

Doodlebugs – You’re Tops in my Book

Happy Mix it up Monday everyone! On the Doodlebugs blog today I’m mixing some really fun bookish products together. I have a very special librarian in my life who I needed a card for so this was extra fun to pull together.

I started by die cutting and inking up the Waffle Flower Open Book die and stencils. I used blending brushes and Lawn Fawn dye inks to color the layers. It was so much fun! I can’t believe it took me this long to give it a try. I’m for sure hooked and excited to make some with the new Christmas stencils too!

Once that portion was finished I pulled out the Concord and 9th Wood Plank embossing folder for my background panel. I trimmed it down to 4×5.25 inches after it was embossed and inked it lightly with gray to bring out the texture.

Next, I pulled out the Lawn Fawn Little Woodland Library stamps and dies to choose the sweet reading critters to place around my open storybook. After those were stamped, colored and die cut I moved on to assembling the parts together.

Wanting a little contrast I added deep sea ink to my card front before popping the wood plank panel up with foam tape. Then I glued the storybook down with liquid glue and popped up my critters and sentiment strip with foam squares and strips.

For finishing touches I just added a little glossy accents on the worm’s glasses and white gel pen highlights on all the stamped images.

Doodlebugs – Playing with Colors and Stencils

Welcome friends! It’s Mix it up Monday and today I’m playing with the Concord & 9th Sweet Stems stencil set I picked up a while ago. It’s laid out perfectly that you don’t need to mask anything to get the perfect color layering and is really fun to create with in any color palette. To prove that, I sat and created 3 cards with what felt like no effort at all.

With a stencil set like this my first attempt is always just to play with it and see how the layers fit together. Sometimes I’m done after that but with this set I kept coming up with color combos I wanted to try out and see how they looked together.

I used distress oxide inks for this first card – salvaged patina, twisted citron, dried marigold, spiced marmalade. Then I used dried marigold for my sentiment color as well. I splattered the panels with water and then with pearl watercolor for sparkle.

For this card I switched to Lawn Fawn dye inks – no. 2 pencil, jalapeno, ballet slippers and guava. I splattered it the same and used guava for my sentiment.

This final combo is also Lawn Fawn dye inks – jalapeno with artichoke on some darker spots, ballet slippers, fresh lavender and juice box. I used fresh lavender for the sentiment.

After inking all of the panels I trimmed them down to fit just behind the Mama Elephant postage frame and used liquid glue to adhere the layers together. The sentiments all came from the Mama Elephant Way to Go stamp and die set.

I popped the sentiments up with foam strips and then popped the postage frames up on gray card bases with foam tape as well. I oriented them all differently so you could see the variations. Then trimmed any excess off the edges with a paper trimmer.

I hope this gives you some inspiration to take a moment and get inky. It’s fun and well worth the time!

Doodlebugs – You Make My Heart Smile

Happy New Year’s Eve Eve everyone! It’s the last Mix it up Monday of 2024 and I wanted it to be sweet and filled with love. So we’re playing with textured backgrounds and cute little mice.

I started with the Mama Elephant Lacey Love die and the Lawn Fawn All Heart stamps and dies. I used the mouse image as a guide so I could stamp my sentiment on the inner heart. After that was stamped, I added some extra hearts and a little pink ink blending with a blending brush and ballet slippers ink from Lawn Fawn. Then I stamped, colored and cut out my mouse too.

For the background, I embossed a piece of white cardstock with the new Concord & 9th Wood Slat embossing folder. I adhered that to a white card base, then trimmed a piece of teal cardstock from my stash that already had the dots embossed in it and glued it on top. I covered the seam with gold washi tape for a little shine and to keep the transition smooth.

Next I popped my Lacey Heart up with foam squares in the center of the card front, along with my floating mouse on top of that. Then for finishing touches I added black glaze pen to the mouse’s eyes and glossy accents to his nose. Then I covered the balloon with stardust Stickles for more sparkles.

I hope you all have a wonderful rest of 2024 and I look forward to creating with you in the new year.

Doodlebugs – Ultimate Mix It Up Monday

Hey friends! I’m over on the Doodlebugs blog for our weekly Mix it up Monday but today is seriously the ultimate mix and match with so many companies together and you’d never know. They just work so great!

Isn’t this just the cutest!!! So easy too! Any order really, you just need that sweet Sunny Studios penguin colored and die cut. The awesome Lawn Fawn candy canes die cut and assembled. I started with red and white but didn’t love it until I added the pink. Be sure to play with this die set! I think I’ll try some mint green next.

Now, use liquid glue to adhere your candy canes crisscross and then add the penguin to the top.

Then stamp and heat emboss your sentiment of choice – the Pretty Pink Posh sentiment strips dies and coordinating stamp sets for the win as usual. I’m tell you, you’ll get your moneys worth from these. There is always something that works!

Now, add foam squares and strips behind your images and sentiment strip.

Now, we’re going to switch to Concord & 9th for an awesome background die. Trim your panel to 3.5×4.75 inches and cut it twice with the Double Stripe Card Front die – once landscape and then again portrait. Then you get this awesome plaid stitching.

I used green cardstock and then ink blended the edges with shabby shutters distress oxide for a little shadow and flicked forest moss ink across the panel for extra interest.

Finally, to assemble it all, I popped the background panel up with foam tape on a white card base and then adhered the images and sentiment strip on that. For finishing touches I added black glaze pen to the penguin’s eyes and glossy accents to his beak.

Can you believe it? We mixed 4 companies together today and they created the cutest holiday card!

Doodlebugs – Using Color Palettes to Extend the Use of Products, Fall Vibes

Welcome to another Mix it up Monday for the Doodlebugs blog! Today I’m playing with a few different die sets that were released during other times of the year but if you just change the color palette you use them with, it’s fun and easy to use them all year long.

I started with this great Love You die from the Concord & 9th Markered Messages die set. I cut some strips from my chosen color palette. I was thinking soft fall vibes. I glued those to a piece of cardstock and cut the “shadow” circle from that stripes. Then I chose a chocolate cardstock from my stash to cut the word portion out. I used foam squares to adhere the two together.

For my background, I wanted to tie the brown in more so I cut the Pretty Pink Posh Pierced Leafy Vines background die from it and glued that to a white card base. To separate the sentiment from the background panel, I used shabby shutters distress oxide ink on a piece of cardstock. I spritzed it with water and flicked white paint on the panel before popping it up with foam tape.

Last, I went digging for leaves that fit my vibe to adorn my sentiment panel. I found this one in the Pretty Pink Posh Winter Mug die set. I cut it from a few colors in the stripes and glued them in place with liquid glue. To finish off the design I found a few baubles that resembled water drops to glue to my leaves.

Spellbinders | Concord & 9th – Paper Scrap Buster Cards

Welcome everyone! So happy it’s Friday and we can almost taste the weekend. It’s going to be fabulous. But first, I have a pair of cards I created with dies from Spellbinders and Concord & 9th plus a bundle of paper scraps I had sitting around.

I took the paper scraps and glued them to a piece of paper, the used the Concord & 9th Marked Messages dies to cut the hello shadow from the strip collage I had made. My piece was big enough that I actually got two shadows from it. BONUS! I cut the word from black cardstock and used liquid glue to adhere it in place.

Then I used the Spellbinders Four Petal dies to cut a white background shape. That was a little plain and I thought it would be fun to emulate the dots in the scraps I used so I ran the white panel through my die cut machine with the Spellbinders Tiny Dot embossing folder.

I cut a teal background for my card front and splattered it with metallic watercolor before adhering it with liquid glue to a card front. Then I popped the white panel up with foam tape, followed by the hello panel the same way. For finishing touches I wrapped black jute twine around the top and tied it in a bow.

I like making cards like these to have on hand because you can turn them into lots of occasions depending on the message you write, or they’re easy to add a sentiment strip to later on that says something more specific too.
