Doodlebugs – Sending Joy & Cheer

Welcome to another Mix it Up Monday for Doodlebugs! Today we’re playing with lots of dies and creating a fun, shaped card for the holidays.

I picked up the new Lawn Fawn Build a Fox and some of the holiday dress add ons a bit ago and was just itching to play. So I set some time aside with no intention other than to build a cute fox for the holidays.

After I built him, I knew he had to be the star of the show. So I dug through my Spellbinders dies to find the perfect scene, landing on the one of my favorites – Make a Wish Arch Labels. I cut the base twice, once from green and once from white cardstock. I scored the white about 1/2″ from the top and glued the two together at the flap so I have a shaped card base now. Then I cut the next size down from white cardstock ink blending the center with green and splattering some water and distress oxide spray on the panel as well.

Next I cut two Pretty Pink Posh Banner Greetings shapes from black and red cardstocks. I heat embossed one of the Christmas Banner Greetings sentiments on the black one. I glued the layers together and then added foam strips to the back, along with foam squares to the back of my fox.

I removed the release paper, adhering both to the white panel before adding more foam tape to the back of that, adding it to the shaped card base. I finished the design off with glossy accents on the fox’s cheeks and stardust Stickles to the pompom on his hat.

Doodlebugs – Christmas Tags Have Begun

Happy Mix it up Monday everyone! If you’ve been around for a minute, you know I love making tags for all occasions. I rarely give a gift without a tag attached and sometimes I make tags for fun and go hunting for a gift to give it with. Yes, I’m serious I’ve done that more than once.

Let the Christmas tag create commence! Today I’m using Mama Elephant tags, Lawn Fawn stencils and Pretty Pink Posh stamps and dies. Dig in your stash and see what strikes you! Tags are a fun, smaller canvas and can serve as a quick bit of crafting to scratch the itch or possibly pull you out of a creative slump.

Mix and match different colors and textures. Remember you can write on the back of the tag or cut a second one so you have another layer to write on. This also gives you more area to write if you’re adding a little message along with it.

I’m curious today too. How do you attach your tags to gifts? Do you tie them on with a longer string? Attach them with tape or glue? I usually create my tags like they’re shown in the photo and depending on the gift, add double-sided tape to the back of the last layer or thread a thinner string through the knot at the top to tie them on a bag.

Doodlebugs – Christmas Mice Duo

Happy Mix it up Monday everyone! I’m here today with a pair of cards featuring the same products in two colorways to help stock my stash for Christmas cards before it’s here.

I started by cutting the Mama Elephant All Tied Up cover from pink and teal cardstocks. Then I cut the string and bow from white and rose gold cardstocks to see how the different colors looked. They’re both good but I think I like the flashy better.

I cut white card bases next and inked up the front with the Pretty Pink Posh deco leaves stencil coordinating with both panels I had ready to go. I used Lawn Fawn peacock and ballet slippers inks here.

I pulled out the Mama Elephant Holiday Happiness dies and cut both sentiments from red and pink cardstock, using liquid glue to adhere the layers. I always have a hard time choosing which to use so I love making double cards for these to use one of each.

Next, I stamped two sets of the cute mice from the Lawn Fawn Sweet Christmas Mice and colored one set gray and the other brown. I used the coordinating dies to cut them out and now we can start assembling everything together.

The gift panels are glued directly to the card bases, along with the ribbons strings. Then I popped the sentiments and mice up with foam tape and squares. I finished the designs off with glossy accents on mouse noses and stardust Stickles on bits of each image.

Doodlebugs – Star Treat Boxes

Happy Mix it up Monday everyone! Today I’m giving life to the awesome new Lawn Fawn star treat box die. It’s perfectly designed – as theirs always are – and going to be so fun to use year round! Let’s get started with some Halloween treats!

I started by cutting the boxes from black cardstock. Then like in the Lawn Fawn intro video, I used adhesive tape to adhere the box as I built it. Be sure to watch the Lawn Fawn intro videos for all of these interactive-type die sets. They’re a life saver!

Next, I ink smooshed some spooky colors on watercolor paper for a mottled effect. Then I stamped my Pretty Pink Posh Halloween Word Scenes images and used the coordinating dies to cut them all out. I love the extra color but the pictures needed to pop so I added a little extra coloring here and there throughout.

Next, I added foam squares to the back of the word scenes and removed the release paper. Before adding them to the box fronts, I looped up a bit of embroidery floss for some added interest behind them. Places where the floss covered too much of the foam square I added some liquid glue for good measure.

To finish these off, I stamped and die cut Pretty Pink Posh Halloween sentiment strips and popped them up with foam strips below the word scenes on each box. Last, I added stardust Stickles on parts of the images for some sparkle and fun.

Doodlebugs – Joyful Wishes Mice

Welcome to Mix it up Monday for Doodlebugs everyone! This week really switches gears to holiday inspiration from all directions so bear with me if you’re still in spooky mode.

Today I created a simple card using the Mama Elephant Candy Cane Lane stamps and dies. I started by stamping and coloring three of the mice with copic markers. Then I used the coordinating dies to cut them out and set them aside to create my background.

Taking an A2 size white panel of cardstock, I used post-it tape to mask off the bottom portion of my card, a few inches from the top. I ink blended that section with Distress Oxide Ink in tattered rose and spun sugar for a soft peachy pink gradient. Then, leaving the mask in place, I stamped the mushroom house from Candy Cane Lane on the right side.

I also stamped my sentiment from the Pretty Pink Posh Wavy Christmas Greetings stamp set on the bottom before gluing the panel to a white card base. Last, I popped the mice up with foam squares and added stardust Stickles to the poms on each of their hats.

Isn’t this a sweet but simple Christmas card!?! I adore how it turned out!

Doodlebugs – Grateful for Fall

Hey friends! This week for Doodlebugs Mix it up Monday, I’m really feeling the fall vibes. I have been itching to play with these Lawn Fawn Sunflower dies since I got them and today it just felt perfect!

Instead of using colored cardstock for the petals, stems and leaves I used distress oxide and spritz sprays to add color to white cardstock. It gives great texture, shimmer and depth. After the panels were dry from spraying them, I cut out the pieces and used liquid glue to assemble everything.

I cut a red background panel at 4×5.25 inches and ink blended the Pretty Pink Posh Deco Leaves stencil over top with darker red ink. Then I ink blended the edges for depth before adding it to a white card base.

Next I popped up my sunflowers with foam squares. Then stamped and die cut a sentiment using the Pretty Pink Posh Sentiment Strips stamps and dies. I glued the layers together and popped it up over the stems with foam strips.

For finishing touches on the design I glued a scattering of brown flat sequins from Pretty Pink Posh.

Here’s a close up look at the texture on the sprayed sunflower parts. I love them!

Doodlebugs – Potions Lessons

Hello again! I’m back with another Mix-it-up Monday for Doodlebugs and, of course, I’m back to my Halloween antics. This time we’ve got potions class. So grab your text books and turn to page 394 please.

I started this card by wanting to play with the Pretty Pink Posh Potions Shaker dies so I cut out all the bits and blending brushes to add shading and dimension. After that I splattered them with unicorn watercolor and let them dry.

While those were drying, I chose a couple of images from Mama Elephant Bewitched to stamp, color and cut out. Then I assembled my potion bottles, and decided on arrangement. I adhered them together with liquid glue and added foam squares to my images.

My gray background panel was too drab so I pulled out the Pretty Pink Posh Crackle Background stencil and inked it up. Then splattered the panel with darker gray ink for more distressing. We’re in the dungeon after all.

Finally, I adhered the panel to a card base, used liquid glue to adhere my potion bottles and popped my images on with their foam squares. I placed the whole card in my MISTI and stamped the sentiment in the upper right corner and finished the design off with just a bit of glossy accents on my witch and ladel.

Doodlebugs – Cozy Autumn Greetings

Welcome to Mix it Up Monday for the Doodlebugs shop! Today I’m falling into cozy fall vibes with a fun combo of Pretty Pink Posh and Lawn Fawn goodies new and older.

I started by die cutting all the bits from Pretty Pink Posh Winter Mug and Fall Mug Additions die sets. I used some ink blending to give the pieces depth and liquid glue to adhere them all together.

Next, I pulled a piece of the new Lawn Fawn Favorite Flannel Fall paper pad for my card front, and cut a rounded rectangle from vellum to center my images. Next I heat embossed my sentiment from Pretty Pink Posh Sentiment Strips Fall on brown cardstock and used the coordinating dies to cut the strip and scallop panel out.

Everything was adhered with foam tape on the vellum panel and then another layer of foam was added behind those to pop it up on the plaid card front. To finish things off I glued down a scattering of Pretty Pink Posh espresso pearls across the design.

Doodlebugs – Halloween Word Art

Hi there! Today for Doodlebugs Mix-it-up Monday I’m playing with this new set from Pretty Pink Posh called Halloween Word Scenes. They are really fun spooky words and sayings with images in place of some letters. They’re adorable and a fun way to combine your sentiment and images into one.

I was really stuck on the “trick or treat” sentiment so I stamped and colored that first, then used the coordinating die to cut it out. I immediately went to the notched rectangle dies because it seemed like it would fit and I was right. It’s perfect!

After popping the sentiment up with foam squares on the black square, I switched to deciding what I wanted to do with my background. That’s when I remembered this new Concord & 9th embossing folder called Dashed Lines that I hadn’t played with yet. So I embossed a green panel and went over it with my blending brush to help those lines pop.

After gluing the embossed panel to a card base I thought it was missing something so I added a gray strip about 1″ wide behind the notched square. Then I finished things off with a scattering of Pretty Pink Posh pearls and some stardust Stickles on some of the images, plus glossy accents on the jack-o-lantern’s face.

Doodlebugs – Brewing Up Some Halloween Fun

Happy Mix it up Monday everyone! I’m creating for the Doodlebugs shop as usual, but the shop blog is no longer being used so I thought it would be important to keep things going here in case anyone has questions on the creation process.

Today I’m playing with Mama Elephant spooky goodness and adding some Pretty Pink Posh and Waffle Flower dies to round things out.

I started by choosing images from Mama Elephant Bewitched to stamp, color and die cut out. The Mummified set came out in the same release and would be a lot of fun to mix with this or substitute if you have that one but like this layout.

Next, I cut the Waffle Flower Nested Piercing Ticket Frame from black and white cardstock. I kept the white insert and ink blended it for my scene with teal and brown inks, adhering the insert to the black frame with washi tape on the back side. I glued the house and moon directly to the panel and quickly thought it would be cool to color the edges of the images to match, so I did. Then I placed the scene in my MISTI and stamped the sentiment from Pretty Pink Posh Sentiment Strips | Fall on the bottom.

Next, I popped the witches and kitty up with foam squares on my scene panel. To add more interest to the background, I cut a piece of white cardstock with the Pretty Pink Posh Pierced Scallops cover plate and ink blended it with purple ink to coordinate the reoccurring color in my images.

I glued the scallop panel to a card base and popped the scene panel up with foam tape. Then I finished the design off with glossy accents and stardust Stickles on bits of the images – windows, moon, stars, etc.
