Doodlebugs – Make it Green Edition

Hey friends! It’s Mix it Up Monday on the Doodlebugs blog and today we’re making everything green to get in the spirit for St. Patrick’s Day coming up! According to Ancestry.com I don’t have an ounce of Irish in me, but my heart says otherwise because I love doing all the fun things for St. Patrick’s Day and I always have!

For today’s card, I pulled out the amazing Waffle Flower postage collage series – dies and Lucky layered stencil set – and got to inking everything up. Once I had the set stenciled, I used my scissors and cut the stamps apart. I absolutely loved these 3 for the extra green vibe I was going for so I set the others aside for another day.

Next, I pulled out the Pretty Pink Posh Lucky stamps and dies and got to work on all the images from that set. After coloring and die cutting them all, I played around with layout and landed on what you see here. I used liquid glue to adhere the layers together and set them aside to dry while I got messy on my background.

For the background I used a combo of Distress Spritz sprays and Distress Oxide sprays. The spritz have a serious shimmer to them and the oxides are a great, dense color. They play very well together.

After I heat set the sprays on my cardstock, I pulled out the Pretty Pink Posh Argyle stencil set and inked it up with a combination of Lawn Fawn Yeti ink and Distress Oxide Rustic Wilderness. These are pigment inks so they sit on top of what they are inked on. This works great for the cardstock I’ve already inked up with the sprays. Dye inks would have gotten lost.

Finally, I stamped and heat embossed a sentiment from the Waffle Flower Lucky stamp set that coordinates with the postage stencils. I cut it out with a banner die and now I can assemble all my layers.

The background was glued to a card base directly. Then, the images and sentiment strip are all popped up with foam squares. With my finished touches being a little glossy accents on the horseshoe and hat, and stardust Stickles on the rainbow’s clouds.

What a festive and fun birthday card?!? I love it!

Doodlebugs – Mixing Four-Legged Cuteness

Hi friends! I have a fairly simple card to share with you today that I’m just smitten with! I love my critters, you all know that! So to be able to mix and match things along that theme together makes me extra happy! Today we’ve got a fun background and some adorable puppies to celebrate with!

I was digging around in my stash and came across this fabulous layered stencil set from Waffle Flower called Paw Print Duo. It’s a two layer stencil and gives these awesome paw prints for your background. Today I inked them up with peacock and mermaid inks from Lawn Fawn and then splattered the panel with white paint for a little interest and texture.

While that was drying, I stamped the puppy image from the Mama Elephant Little Line Agenda stamp set and colored them with my copic markers. I used the coordinating die to cut it out and added foam squares to the back.

From the same stamp set, I stamped and heat embossed my sentiment on black cardstock. Then I used a banner die to cut it out and also added foam strips to the back of this.

With the background dry, I glued it to a card base and simply removed the release paper on my image and sentiment strip, popping them in the upper center. Then, for finishing touches I added a dab of glossy accents to all the puppy noses and about half of the labels on the boxes. No rhyme or reason, just some glossy bits here and there.

Aren’t they the cutest thing you’ve ever seen!?! I can’t say it enough, I love the Mama Elephant Little Agenda line. They’re the perfect size to play with and too cute for words!

Doodlebugs – Hop Hop Hooray, A Froggy Scene Card

Hello again everyone! This is our first Mix it up Monday of the new year on the Doodlebugs blog. I hope your holidays were wonderful and you’re ready to take on new adventures in 2025! Today I’ve got a little scene card to share featuring a combo of Waffle Flower and Mama Elephant goodies.

I started by die cutting various elements from the Waffle Flower die sets – Inquisitive Frogs and Pond with Lily Pads. I used liquid glue to adhere the elements together and a little ink blending on the frog tummy and cattail stems.

Next, I ink blended teal and blue on a white piece of cardstock and splattered it with water. Once that was dry I cut the panel out using the second largest die in the Mama Elephant Mod Heart die set. I love the uneven, imperfect look it has. Using the froggie as a guide, I stamped the water ring image from Waffle Flower’s Pond of You stamp set. Then I started assembling my images with liquid glue. The frog and front lily pad are popped up with foam tape.

I love the sentiments in the Pond of You stamp set but I ran out of room because they are quite large so I went digging for my favorite Mama Elephant frog stamp set – Hello Froggy. I stamped the sentiment with teal ink to blend in a bit with the sky. I popped the panel up on a white card base with foam tape but something just wasn’t quite right yet.

So I pulled the Waffle Flower Pond of You stamps back out and stamped the awesome dragonflies in gray ink across the blank sky. Much better! I love how this turned out!

Doodlebugs – One Design, Two Ways

Hello everyone! Today for Mix it up Monday on the Doodlebugs blog, I’m sharing a card design two different ways. Two different color ways for ink blending, two different ideas for a sentiment and two different orientations too! So many twos it should be Tuesday! (Bad dad joke of the week.)

Here’s a look at both cards side by side. We’re using the Waffle Flower Sunflower Cluster die and stencil combo with the Lawn Fawn Hello Fall sentiment die today.

For starters let’s talk about the sunflowers. This card is light and bright. I did my ink blending on a white die cut with Lawn Fawn dye inks. They’re happy and beautiful. Definitely giving that sunny vibe.

Believe it or not, this card is using Lawn Fawn dye inks but the die cut was made with kraft cardstock. I went heavier handed on the yellow inks to get the depth and added a darker shade of green for fun, it wasn’t necessary.

Next, I cut my sentiment twice from white cardstock and twice from gold die cut foam from Spellbinders. This set is adhered with the white on top and a peek of the gold glitter. I also turned this card landscape instead of portrait.

Then for this card, I chose a portrait orientation and my sentiment has the flashy gold glitter on top. Different vibes for sure but both are gorgeous!

I did splatter the card front with gold watercolor before adhering the sentiments down because, well, sparkle.

Which style do you like better? Can you think of other products we could try this with?

Doodlebugs – Merry Coloring with Stencils

Welcome friends! It’s Mix it up Monday and I’m slowly transitioning my crafting to a sprinkling of Christmas, as I’m sure some have noticed. We can’t let it creep up on us unaware and be scrambling to create and mail out our Christmas cards now can we?!?

So today I inked up one of the Waffle Flower holiday themed postage stamp stencil sets. This one is called Gingerbread. If you haven’t tried this line of products from Waffle Flower just go into it knowing a few things…they are addicting and so fun to create with, they are so simple with Waffle Flower etching color or theme ideas in the top right corner of each layer, and there is something for everyone, and the collection keeps growing still!

I prefer to die cut my postage stamp backdrop first, then ink up the stencils and stamp my postage extras, then I use my paper trimmer to cut the stamps apart for today’s project. But you could use it whole as a full card design too. It’s that good!

I decided which images I was going to use and tucked the others away to create with another time. Then I cut a Spellbinders Emerald Cut Label, plus the insert layer from pink cardstock. I inked the larger one up with pink ink and splattered them both with pink ink and white paint.

At the same time, I inked the edges of my card base with mermaid ink and splattered it in the same fashion. After those were dry, I layered everything with liquid glue and foam tape.

Next, I popped my postage stamps up with foam squares on the pink rectangle and finished the design off with a sentiment banner from Mama Elephant.

To keep the red cohesive, I inked the background layer of the banner the same way I did on the bird postage stamp. It’s a mix of brown and red from the gingerbread stenciling.

Here’s a little up close of the cuteness we’ve created today! I’m itching to take the other three stamps this stencil set created and get another card checked of my Christmas list!

How far along are you this year? Be honest…I have a solid 15 Christmas cards ready to go and better get cracking if I’m going to get them all done in time.

Doodlebugs – Christmas Mixes

Hey friends! It’s Mix it up Monday on the Doodlebugs blog and today I went the holiday route. I feel like Christmas is one of those holidays where mixing and matching all the themes together work, pretty much no matter what. It’s all fun and festive, and I love it!!!

I started by playing around with the Waffle Flower Holly background die and stencil combo. These background dies from Waffle Flower are genius and so much fun to play with different color combos. I can never stop at one because one color idea leads to another and next thing I know, I’ve got 12 backgrounds and some serious cardmaking ahead of me. It’s wonderful!

With the backgrounds inked up, I pulled out the Waffle Flower Merry Christmas sentiment dies and cut the shadows from coordinating cardstock as the berries on my background. The words are white and everything is assembled with liquid glue.

I really think I could have just popped the sentiment up in the upper center but what’s the fun in that?!? So I pulled out the Pretty Pink Posh Winter Mug dies and created a couple of those in coordinating colors to each background as well.

I popped everything up on the background panel with foam tape and added a pearl to the center of each snowflake for a little something.

These cards would be simple and quick to mass produce for the holidays, especially if you got started early! I’ll definitely be adding a few more color combos to my stash before I’m done with them.

Doodlebugs – Mix-it-Up Monday Get Well Card

Hi friends! Mix-it-up Monday on the Doodlebugs blog is a fun design that is completely interchangeable for sentiments to make it whatever you need. I never had get well cards on hand so I thought this was the perfect time to make an extra. This combo of Waffle Flower and Mama Elephant products is really fun and sure to bring a smile.

I started by using my Waffle Flower Grip Mat and Daisy background stencil to ink up a subtle background. I used a mix of pink and purple for the flowers with apricot ink in the centers. I didn’t spend a lot of time on that because it doesn’t show much but definitely adds a little something.

Next, I cut the new Mama Elephant Note Page die with the embossed lines insert still attached. I took some Tombow markers to draw notebook lines on the paper for fun and then stamped some of the scribble images from Mama Elephant Write With Me stamp set on it. I used Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers to color them in quickly.

I cut the Waffle Flower Oversized Get Well from black cardstock and glued it in place, adding fun white gel pen accents for interest. Then I chose the cut fox image from the Mama Elephant Write With Me to stamp and color with copic markers. I used the coordinating die to cut him out and added the note page and fox to the stenciled panel with foam tape and squares.

I decided to match the white gel pen from the sentiment to the fox image and also glossy accents on his nose and pen nib. *Pro tip: Let glossy accents dry and add white gel pen on top of it. It looks really cool and goes on smooth and easy.

Doodlebugs – Treat Yourself on your Berry Special Day

Hello everyone! It’s time for another mix-it-up Monday on the Doodlebugs blog. Today we’re mixing all the strawberry things together again in a different way. I love how bright today’s card turned out! It’s so sweet you can almost taste it.

I started with the Pretty Pink Posh Fresh Berries stamp set. I stamped out a few berries and leaves, coloring everything with copic markers before using the coordinating dies to cut it all out.

Next, I stamped and heat embossed a sentiment from the Waffle Flower Birthday Wishes stamp set and cut it out with the coordinating die. I also cut a Waffle Flower Sweet Lattice panel for my background.

With all the pieces ready to go, it’s time to assemble some. Using the sentiment as a guide on the background panel, I used liquid glue to adhere the strawberries and foliage in place. Then I added the sentiment with foam squares so there is some dimension.

Not wanting white on white for my background, I took the Lawn Fawn guava ink pad direct to my card base for some textured color. Then I used liquid glue to adhere the lattice in place.

For finishing touches I added a few Spellbinders pearls and white gel pen highlights to the images.

Waffle Flower – New Release

Oh my goodness everyone! I’m so excited to be part of the new release of updated Waffle Flower Grip Mats! They’re even better than before plus there are new sizes that make so much sense for different styles of crafters!

There are different bundles available as you can see above, or there is a the complete bundle for all the sizes too. I was sent the Stencil Bundle which is absolutely perfect for how I use the mats. I highly recommend them for all types of crafters because they can be used in a variety of ways. Today I have a couple of cards to share with you that I created using the new Grip Mats and some fabulous Waffle Flower stencil sets.

First off, I knew it was prime time to pull out the new Postal Collage 4th of July stencil set! So, I die cut the postal collage base from white cardstock and placed it on my mat. Today I used the 5.5×8.5 mat and it was perfect. I inked up layer after layer, keeping my paper in place on the mat, just swapping out the next layer of the stencil set.

My final stencil layer was when I added Thermoweb transfer gel blanco instead of ink. Everything stayed in place perfectly, even when spreading the paste around and scraping the excess off. I removed the last stencil and peeled my postal collage off to set aside and dry. The paper stayed in place but also peeled off easily without warping or bending it either.

Once the transfer gel was dry, I placed shattered gold transfer foil on the panel and ran it through my mini Minc. The reveal was so fun on this panel. I love the sparkle and shine on it! From there I pulled out the Postal Collage and Postal Collage 4th of July stamp sets to add details to my stamp sheet. This was scary at first but really fun as I got more comfortable.

Last, I stamped and heat embossed a sentiment from Postal Collage 4th of July and cut it with a banner die. I added a piece of patterned paper from the Berry Sweet Gingham paper pad to a white card base, popped the postal collage up with foam squares and then popped the sentiment banner up on that.

There was no way I was stopping at one card with my Grip Mat out and begging to be played with. Stenciling on this tool is addicting because it takes stress and anxiety out of the equation.

I chose the Sweet Strawberry stamp, die and stencil combo to create with next. I stamped my image on a piece of white cardstock and then transferred it to my Grip Mat. I immediately went to work inking up section by section to color my image in. It was so smooth and really fun!!!

Once the inking was done, I die cut a Sweet Lattice panel from teal cardstock. Layering it over my white card base was too stark so I inked the card front up with tattered rose distress oxide ink. Then I spritzed it with water and flicked white paint on the card front and lattice panel.

Once that was all dry, I popped the lattice panel up with foam strips, and did the same with my strawberries and sentiment with foam squares. Moving on to finishing touches, I went ahead with some subtle clear enamel dots looking like dew drops on the image.

I know it was a lot today but I really hope you’ll check out the Waffle Flower Grip Mats, and then think about the other pretty goodies too. These Grip Mats are all they’re cracked up to be and more. It’s a fabulous tool that you will not regret purchasing. And if you have to choose one size, go a little bigger than you think so you can get more use out of it down the road if your crafting style changes.

Doodlebugs – A Berry Fun Full Card Front Shaker

Welcome to mix-it-up Monday on the Doodlebugs blog! We’re creating a quick and fun full card front shaker with a summery strawberry theme. We’ve had a little relapse in weather but I’m not giving up on summer crafting in the slightest!

I started my card today by inking up the Waffle Flower Strawberries background stencil set. To be sure the ink showed up really well on my kraft base, I used distress oxide inks. The colors I chose were candied apple, pine needles, mowed lawn and mustard seed. Then I spread a little glossy gel through the final seed layer for subtle shiny details.

Once the glossy gel was dry, I trimmed the panel to 4×5.25 inches and wrapped a Waffle Flower shaker cover around it. I only adhered 3 sides at first, pouring in my shaker bits and then securing the last side down. I used tear tape for this because it’s strong and instant. I find it works best with the plastic shaker covers. My sequins are from Pretty Pink Posh and Spellbinders.

Next, I stamped and heat embossed a sentiment from Pretty Pink Posh Fresh Berries and used the coordinating die to cut it out. Then I stamped another small sentiment from Pretty Pink Posh Sentiment Strips | Valentine and cut it out with the smallest Pretty Pink Posh Sentiment Strip die. I adhered both of these to the front of my shaker panel with foam strips.

Last of all, I added more tear tape to the back of the shaker panel and adhered it to a white card base. Once again, the tear tape is great against the plastic and gives you instant bond.

Now, just give it a little shake, shake, shake and it’s ready to go!
