Newton’s Nook – Riding By to Say

Happy Wednesday everyone! I’m over on the Newton’s Nook blog today. I’ve created a birthday card with a great fall feel. I love mixing and matching stamps to change the feel and look of them throughout the year.

I knew that I wanted to create a fun flocked background with the Houndstooth stencil so I started with the messy part so it had time to dry. I took a kraft panel and inked the edges with brushed corduroy Distress Oxide ink. I spritzed it with water and also white paint. Once it was dry, I taped down the Houndstooth stencil and spread Thermoweb transfer gel blanco through that. I cleaned up my surface and set the panel aside to dry.

I chose my images from Cycling Friends, stamped and colored them with copic markers before cutting them out with the coordinating dies. Then I used a little liquid glue to adhere them together. Next, I die cut a tag from the Fancy Edges Tag die set and heat embossed the Fall Roundabout image on it in gold. I wanted to tone down the color so I inked the edge with chipped sapphire distress oxide and adhered a deco foil flock hole reinforcer to the top. I threaded jute twine through the hole and added a bow to the top.

Once the panel was dry and the laminator was heated up, I placed the kraft panel and midnight blue deco foil flock in a Craft & Carrier sheet and ran it through. Peeling these apart is like magic. Soooo cool and rewarding. Now it’s time to assemble the card.

I added the kraft panel to a white card base and glued the tag down with liquid glue. I placed an acrylic block on top while I added foam squares to my images to help it dry flat. Then I added the images and decided how I was going to add my sentiment.

I landed on stamping it in two colors on white cardstock and trimming them out with my paper cutter and scissors. These are added with foam strips to keep them level with the images.

For finishing touches I added glossy accents to the balloons, critter noses, gifts and parts of the bike. Then I added black glaze pen to the puppy’s eye to help it pop too.
